Alo Warrior Mat Review
Premium Hot Yoga Mat
Verdict
The Alo Yoga Warrior Mat is a premium hot yoga mat that delivers excellent grip and a luxury feel. At $148, it competes directly with Liforme ($150) and Lululemon The Mat ($118). The PU + natural rubber construction provides moisture-activated grip that improves with sweat. Design-wise, it's the most aesthetically refined mat on this list — clean colors, premium packaging, and the distinctive Alo brand appeal. The main drawbacks are price (higher than Lululemon with no clear performance advantage) and weight (5 lbs — not the lightest).
Who Should Buy
- ✓Hot yoga enthusiasts — PU top layer grips better when wet
- ✓Style-conscious yogis — best-looking mat in the premium tier
- ✓Alo Yoga fans — pairs perfectly with Alo activewear
Who Should Skip
- ✗Value seekers — Lululemon offers similar performance for $30 less
- ✗Travelers — 5 lbs is manageable but not ideal
Grip & Performance
The Warrior Mat uses a polyurethane top layer over natural rubber — the same construction as Lululemon The Mat. In dry conditions, grip is very good but not exceptional. In hot yoga conditions, the PU surface absorbs moisture and becomes increasingly tacky. During our 90-minute hot yoga test (100°F), testers reported zero slipping and excellent stability in standing poses.
The 5mm thickness strikes a good balance between cushioning and ground feel. It's slightly softer than the Manduka PRO's dense 6mm but more supportive than the 4.2mm Liforme. For most practitioners, 5mm is the ideal all-purpose thickness.
Design & Aesthetics
Alo Yoga is a lifestyle brand, and the Warrior Mat reflects that. Available in 8 curated colors (not the 20+ of Gaiam, but each is well-chosen), the mat has a refined, premium look that stands out in a studio. The packaging is equally premium — arrives in a branded box with a high-quality carrying strap. If your yoga practice is as much about how you look as how you perform, this is the mat to beat.
The natural rubber base has a subtle Alo logo pattern that prevents slipping on studio floors. The top surface is smooth but not slippery — a textured microfiber feel that improves with use.
